By now, I think most of us realize that all the data we've put online is being used against us, and whereas, we do derive some benefit, as time goes on we will come to realize just how it's being used by governments, political bodies, and corporations as they invade our virtual space. Targeted ads are amongst the most obvious, but have you yet noticed that you are getting political information based on your stated online preferences or close to them? I've been noticing.
You see, as a libertarian, albeit leaning more right than left, I've come to realize that I am a valuable swing voter to both sides of the political spectrum, and I just cannot believe some of the BS they try to use to sway me to either side. So, let me ask you; Do You Think That The Republicans are Scanning Your Social Network Page? Well, The Democrats Are Already and have been since Obama's election. Get used to it folks and don't expect any regulatory relief to regain your online privacy - it's never going to happen in my opinion.
There was a rather troubling article in New Scientist on December 22, 2011 titled; " Smart Guide to 2012: The US cyber election," which told of how the political campaigns are using Big Data and scanning all the information about you to find how to target you and get your vote.
Okay so, are you bothered that some of those Republican Campaigns trying to put their candidate forth have interns running around sizing you up, categorizing your life, and then sending a specially targeted and personal message to get your vote, and recruit you to get others to vote for them too? Well, if you aren't bothered about the Republicans doing this, how about the Dems? They are doing it, in fact, they invented the idea.
The Founders of Google, and Facebook supported Barack Obama remember, they still do and have been sending in their campaign funds. Get ready for the deluge thanks to all the data you put online to help them hone in on their target; YOU! And don't get your hopes up that the EFF, Electronic Freedom Foundation is going to help you either, you see, even if the Congress makes a rule against marketing companies do this, you know they will exempt themselves, just as they did with the FTC's "Do Not Call List" - or how the US Congress is exempted from insider trading so they can all become multi-millionaires - Ouch! Forget I reminded you of that reality.
Suffice it to say, you can't escape now. You are in the Matrix Kimosabe!
