How to Build a Link to Your Brand

When you are running a company, you need to have an internet marketing strategy designed to help you with bringing your brands to the attention of the World Wide Web. As part of that strategy, you will have to learn how to build a link in order to get your website up the search engine rankings. The links act as a kind of reference of approval for your website, so the better the website you link to, the more notice will be taken of this vote of approval. This is a complex procedure because the 'bots' which assess your rankings are becoming very sophisticated, and they can spot poor links, or links to websites which are not very highly ranked themselves. The best way to build your brand links so that the 'bots' approve of them is to follow some very important steps.

You should first re-assess your conception of how you are building branding links. You need to create links that look as though they belong in your text and also links that add some value to your website. Preferably, the link should also be built through a social network connection. The latter will require you to build up a relationship between yourself and the owner of the website you want to link to. Many people link websites randomly, without properly knowing how to build a link between themselves and another website.

Before you start building branding links, you need to assess the quality of the website, and also the types of links that they have on their site. The quality of the web pages depends not only upon the text on the pages themselves, but also the supporting websites that they have linked to. Your chosen site should also have some relevance to your own website, so for example if you have a book site, then you may choose to link to Amazon and other books stores. Contact the website and ask permission to place their link on your site. This is essentially free advertising for them, so they should accept. Make a clear note of the page you will be linking to and then wait for a reply.

You can also create links back to yourself from other sites, which will help when you are building branding networks amongst a social media site, or interacting with customers in some way. You can use article directories by creating text with your link at the bottom, or you could join a number of social media sites and place links to your own web pages on each site.

How Can Writing a Book Help Your Business?

If you're looking for the next marketing strategy to boost your business or personal brand then you should look to write a book. It's a tried and tested strategy that if written and presented well can lead to increased sales, improved brand strength and ultimately, increased profitability.

It doesn't matter what industry you work within, if you have a success story to share, a wealth of knowledge that others would gain value from or simply an interesting business model or background to your business, then getting this information down on paper can be the catalyst for a huge marketing campaign. Being able to explain how your innovative product reached the market, or how your backstreet market stall became a multimillion pound conglomerate are the types of stories that readers are fascinated by, and the types of books that have had great success over recent years.

Many business men and women write books to support their marketing strategies and often earn a great deal of income not only from book sales but also from simply delivering presentations that introduce their book, product or philosophy etc. The truth is people like to hear how other people became successful, and if they can tap into some of that success through the sharing of knowledge then they will be willing to part with a few pounds to achieve that goal.

However, not many business people consider themselves to be writers as well, and as they start to think about getting their story down in print, they often lose heart and give up. It is at this point that it becomes advisable to get a ghost writer on board. A professional ghost writer will help you to find the focus of your book, normally through an initial interview which will gradually tease out exactly what you want your book to achieve, what it will represent and how it will work alongside your current marketing strategy. Once there is a broad spectrum plan in place, a ghost writer will then help you to define the key elements that will in turn define the chapter structure of the book.

Working in partnership with a ghost writer will help you to produce a credible book that will ultimately add value to your product, brand or business. And many ghost writers will also be able to advise you regarding the best publishing options and subsequent marketing plans in order to really make your book work for your business.

Do you want to write a book to boost your business? Contact a professional ghost writer from JMD Editorial and Writing Services, today.

Marketing With Social Media: What It Can Do For You

If you are still not sure about whether it is a right decision to participate in social media, chances are you have already missed a lot of opportunity to reach your target market. Firstly we would talk about the difference between social media and social networking. Secondly, we will discuss about two important points you should pay attention to when you approach this new marketing channel. Finally, we will talk about the common mistakes business owners are making while they are doing marketing in this new channel.

So what is social media and social networking?

Some people may mess up the definition between social media and social networking, or even they are using interchangeably. But actually they are two different things.

Social media can be seen as a "tool" or a platform that allow people to share information with each other. While social networking can be seen as an "action" that people with different interests can freely create and share message in the same platform, as well as building relationship with each other.

You will have to pay a lot of effort unless you have already had a brand established for a long time, or you have already had a customer base, having powerful influence in this area takes hard work and continuous effort. And you do that with your social networking skills, which is a way to have a conversation with your target audience.

Important points regarding "social"

Social media provides an excellent way for people to communicate with each other. As a result, it allows us to build a deep and valuable relationship with each other. However, if you want to get the maximum return from it, you need to remember two things:

1. People want a lot of useful information. In other words, although selling things over there is acceptable, if you just focus on sales but nothing, sure it will drive people away. So find a way to add value to the conversation using your knowledge and expertise is the way to go.

2. When you launch your social media campaign, you may not see a lot of responses immediately. It takes time and efforts so do not give up.

Marketing With Social Media

The key to do social media marketing is about connection. After understanding the underlying concept behind this marketing channel, you should pay more attention to create a right message and sending to a correct market. It is less about the technology. In other words, no matter which platform you are using, the fundamental principles are the same. Therefore, instead of considering that it is another "fancy" tools or technology, they are actually a way for people and friends to connect with each other. Making use of it correctly will give you tremendous success.

How to Set Up A Twitter Profile That Attracts Followers That Can Grow Your Business, Part Two

Part one of this two-part article series reviewed the way Twitter can be a useful business tool for anyone who wishes to build a business or personal brand. Having opened a Twitter account, it's important to be strategic in your selection of username and those you follow. A keyword-appropriate username and the appropriate follows help you to align yourself with your niche community.

In an online setting, people need to have information about you that will help them assess whether or not you are a person they want to know. They need to feel they can trust you and that they like you. Without this rapport, they will not engage with you. Yet too many people still set up Twitter accounts without photographs or biographical details and wonder why they have few followers.

This second article looks at how you build on this positioning by creating compelling profile that appeals to your community and makes it an easy decision to choose to follow you. Although one can choose to follow an account without an invitation, there is no compulsion for that account to follow you in return.

To encourage people to follow you in return, you have to make your profile stand out and encourage trust. The more information you can provide the easier it will be for potential customers to get to know you. Your headline is the opportunity to explain yourself and your business within 160 characters. You can also upload your photo and a link to a destination site.

It is possible to set up auto-follow mechanisms which means that whenever someone follows you, your Twitter account will automatically follow them back. The disadvantage of this system is that you will follow people who may not be part of your target community. Keep a close eye on your following list and immediately disassociate yourself from spammers and offensive content providers by" un-following" them.

If the people you follow have auto-follows set up then your follower list will start to grow. It also means that if you chose to "un-follow" them at a later point, your follower number will also diminish. In the longer-term, it is better to grow your follower list without automation - a strong profile, relevant tweets and a good reputation within your niche will attract more committed followers who pro-actively decide to follow you.

To help you build up your follower numbers, Twitter offers you the option to follow other Tweeters that they think are appropriate to your profile. They base this partly on the keywords such as your location and profession, as well as your profile's keywords and your tweets. Since you want to develop a following of the "right" people for your business and brand your profile must be keyword-friendly so the suggestions are relevant.

If the suggestions meet your criteria of selection then follow them. Over time, you'll begin to see that you and your followers are following similar people. The higher the number of mutual followings, the more closely you're embedding yourself within your target community.

Your choice of words in your headline will give very important first impression. Be aware of the consequences of your selection - are you including keywords that people use in searches? People make their choices within seconds - if there is no picture, no biography, or a biography that doesn't appeal, they simply won't bother to connect.

You need to make it very easy for someone to see what you offer them to make the association with you of value. Take time to look at people's headlines and observe your reactions on reading them. What headlines make you think that an individual is worth following and what makes you think that they are not?

An accountant who decides to follow a provocative comedian or an outspoken and controversial politician or celebrity risks alienating potential followers. On the other hand, these followers could be a good fit for the overall brand identity that an artist/creative individual has created for themselves. For the accountant, it would risk reputation and professionalism, for the creative, there's a sense of transferred talent or celebrity by association.

If this is an account that you'll use for business purposes, remember the balance between providing the human touch and being overly personal. Does your potential follower want to know you're single, newly divorced, or happily married? Does it add to your professional value or offering? Will your niche like or loathe your choice of music or political affiliation - is it relevant to the service or product you can offer them?

If you refer to your religion or political views in your headline you may either draw in like-minded individuals or repel them. If you proclaim yourself to be a "visionary" or "guru", "nerd", "on a subject will people feel more confident or think you're arrogant or someone with inept social skills...?

Given the huge significance of your headline, take time to really consider what is appropriate. While you want to retain your authentic voice, avoid being over- smart or funny - it may backfire against you if your target audience are not impressed with your wit & humour. Ultimately, you need to make it clear that you are a friendly, approachable individual, with skills & knowledge that you are happy to share.

Reinforce your headline with an equally appropriate and professional photograph. Use the same photo image on all your online social media platforms to build up consistency and recognition. Pictures of you at your wedding, at a party, or on the beach won't sit well against a business brand that reflects professionalism and stability - save it for Facebook or other private, non-professional channels.

Finally, include a link to a destination site which can go into more detail and provide more information about what you do and what you offer. This can be your main website, your blog, your YouTube channel or LinkedIn/Facebook page.

The key aspect of a compelling profile is the ease with which a prospective follower can see what you do and what value you offer. On looking at your profile, they want to see a consistent brand - professional and inappropriate tweets that reflect the professionalism of your photograph and the promise implied in your headline offering. If they can see like-minded people following you, and preferably people they are connected to themselves, they will be more inclined to follow you too.

Talking The Talk With Twitter

Hello fellow Tweeters (or potential Tweeters if you're reading this article)! Today I'd like to talk about how to use Twitter.

1. Open A Twitter Account

Make sure that your Twitter account has your name in it. As with anything you do (as a Network Marketer) you want YOUR name to be associated with the content. This is very important! It builds a name for you and hence credibility. I know this might be difficult because someone else might have the same name as you, but try putting in your middle initial, if your name is Jon expand your name to Jonathan, or if that doesn't work use your whole name (first middle AND last).

Okay now you have your account set up. What next?

2. Search For People to Follow

You want to target who to follow based on your products. For example, if you sell insurance then on the top bar of your Twitter account click "Who To Follow". You will see a search bar. Type in "insurance" and anyone who has that in their comments or profile descriptions will show up. Try and follow about 20 people per day. It's best this way, because you don't get overwhelmed and if you continue with it, you'll be up to over 1000 followers in no time! Thanks to CONSISTENCY!

3. Connect Your Twitter To Facebook

On the top left hand corner should be your account name. When you click on it, choose "Settings". Next select the "Profile" tab. At the bottom of the page, you should have the option of connecting you Twitter Account to Facebook. Now anything you post on Facebook will automatically go onto Twitter! Yes, that's right, no extra technical knowledge required!!

If you have a Fan Page on Facebook, go to your Fan Page, click "Edit Page", from the right side menu choose "Resources". Underneath the heading "Connect With People" you will see the option to connect your Fan Page to Twitter. Click on the Twitter icon and the rest will just fall into place. Now anything you post on your Fan Page will post to Twitter as well.

4. Talk The Talk - Tweet

Alright, here's where we get down to the nitty gritty. The explanation of the alien-like language of Twitter. Now, you see a lot of @ and # signs; let me explain. When you want to send a public message to someone you @TheirName. When you want to include a topic in your Tweet you #Topic (hash a topic). What this does is include your tweet in the search for that topic. For example, if you #diet then when someone searches "diet" your post will come up.

You can also DM someone. This means Direct Message and it is private. You can only DM people who are following you.

Well, I hope this article has helped! I know when I first joined Twitter I was lost and figuring it out by yourself is a LONG process. Ha Ha!!

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to submit them! Or connect with me on my website @ http://www.reneearpin.com/ and Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/renee.m.arpin

Overly Competitive Online Markets Prompt Some to Devalue Themselves

Along with the Internet comes a world of opportunity for an artist to promote. Utilizing various social networks, blogs, YouTube, and other free services, one could essentially establish and synergize a web campaign all from the comfort of home. This sounds great right? Yes, it does. Everyone else in the world thinks so too.

And therein lays the problem.

The trade-off for the easy access the Internet provides to "artistic" endeavors is the loss of value given to the work of true artists. And it's not just the Internet that is threatening to make the work of the artist nearly obsolete. Photoshop and software of its ilk is readily available and utilized by countless people. They are using these software programs and Internet applications to create what they consider to be their own art.

It would seem that the massive opportunity created by the Internet has finally been saturated to the point that artists, musicians, writers, and even businesses are compelled to offer services or products for free in order to stay competitive. YouTube videos and MySpace pages made by those who would otherwise purchase art (or services to learn how to create art) only make competition more fierce. Meanwhile, others who rely on their Internet presence to generate income are falling by the wayside, unable to effectively market themselves to the consumer.

More and more aspiring writers find their niche in online blogging, devaluing their talent, and causing them to provide free work to news outlets as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Even teenagers have the ability to create their own blogs. However, it is the experienced writers, as well as businesses and even charitable causes that are taking advantage of the Internet's blogging opportunities to report news and to market products and services.

The problem is, in doing so, they are eliminating the necessity for publications to provide writing positions with benefits and fair pay. This makes one wonder at what point the Internet will be "full-up." If that ever occurs, it will end up becoming relatively useless. Just think of how difficult it can be sometimes to find what you need on the Web without seeing a bunch of stuff you aren't interested in or even need to know.

As the flooded market makes it increasingly difficult to turn a profit on the Internet, we begin to realize how important it is to market oneself in a shrewd business manner. Marketing is key, but if your goal is to acquire income, then you have to do so in creative and innovative ways.

How Does the Mainstream Media Use Social Media?

Three Ways Social Media Affects What You See, Hear and Read in the Media

You don't have to do a lot of research to see that the mainstream media uses social media every day. Every major news anchor has a Twitter account and many of them have Facebook fan pages with thousands of followers who receive regular updates on that anchor's activities and interests.

CNN's Anderson Cooper spends several minutes every night asking viewers to connect with him on Twitter and Facebook. Ed Schulz of MSNBC's The Ed Show runs interactive polls on a nightly basis connecting those using social media back to his evening show. Every major host or anchor has a social media presence in which they not only promote their appearances, but also seek feedback from their audiences.

In radio, one of the largest chains of terrestrial radio stations mandates that their hosts push social media on a regular basis. In fact, on-air personalities are not only judged by their ratings on the air, but they are equally judged by the number of followers and Web hits to their online blogs. Not only that, they put their money where their microphones are by handing out cash bonuses for hosts that overachieve in the social media arena.

The stations understand that the easiest way to get listeners to their Web sites is through their hosts' social media connections. They also understand the culture of social media that you can't be too commercial or sound like you're trying to sell them too hard on going to the Web site, so they post daily news updates, more information about topics they discuss on the shows, celebrity news and even funny viral videos - any kind of content that adds value to the consumer's online experience. Many stations require their hosts to post something on their blogs at least three times a day, so it's not something they do of their own discretion - it's a job requirement!

The host just needs to do shows that are fun and informative, keep listeners tuned in so that the listeners will want to connect with them on Twitter or Facebook, which leaves the train of breadcrumbs back to the station's Web site.

Stations can then use this online funnel as a way to directly affect their bottom lines, because consumers don't have to buy a thing once they get there. All they have to do is visit early and often and the advertising dollars can justifiably be multiplied.

Finally, newspapers and magazines are beginning to understand the same paradigm, because they are producing online-only content to drive more Web site visitors. It's not enough anymore that they simply repurpose their print content for the online visitors. They are now investing in content that is available only online to continue to monetize their Web traffic through advertising. It's a simple formula, like the radio station model. The more Web site visitors you get, the more you can charge advertisers to reach them.

But if it were about the ad dollars alone, it wouldn't be worth it to devote so much effort into social media. The media gets far more than that. Let me try to put it into perspective.

The main reason the mass media does social media is exactly the same reason you should. They use social media to build a RELATIONSHIP with their audience. In any business-to-consumer interaction, there is no interaction that is more valuable than the establishment of a relationship with your potential customers.

That's why I'm such a firm believer in investing the time and energy in social media marketing to develop RELATIONSHIPS (I can't emphasize the word strongly enough) and build a strong following. Yes, it takes time and energy, but the payoff is that you are building relationships with people, who may one day turn into a client or refer clients. Through this exchange of communication, people learn about your expertise and you get their feedback so everyone benefits in some manner. This interchange takes the relationship to a higher level. The highest level, of course, is that handshake (virtual or face-to-face) that takes place when they become a customer or client.

So, if you want to drive your marketing to a much higher level, do like the big boys do in TV, radio and print - use social media to build relationships with your potential customers and then watch as that potential is realized.

How Social Media Helps in Post-Event Marketing

It is known to us all that the social media platform can be a game changer, especially when it is used for the promotion of any event. It not only helps you reach a larger audience, but also markets your brand to the world. However, the problem arises when it is off-season as most of the organizers fail to retain their brand image in the market during this time. In such a situation, they often look for some convenient and cost-effective ways to maintain their market position. Social media marketing comes in handy for this post-event promotion. However, for this, you must have a potential base of followers in Facebook and Twitter. Then, you can turn to conversations with your followers to keep them updated about your event. You just have to change the focus of your postings in the social networks.

Social media promotion is one of the cost-effective and convenient media of post-event promotion. Check out here, how to do post-event promotion through social media.

Post Updates From Your Event

You can keep your audience engaged by posting regular updates about your event in the social media sites. For this, you can post links to your own website. You can also ask relevant questions to your followers regarding your event. Moreover, try to post photos and videos of the event, so that your followers, who had not attended it, can have a chance to catch a glimpse of it.

Converse with Your Followers

Conversing with your followers and asking for regular feedbacks help you stay in touch with them. It's a well-known marketing strategy, especially when you do not have any upcoming event. As soon as the event is over, ask your guests if they are satisfied with it. Besides, try to know if there is something, which they would have preferred done in a different way. For example, if you are planning for your next event, you can ask your followers what kind of theme they would like you to arrange. You can also ask what they would like to get with their registration. Feedbacks often help you make sincere improvements, which affect your market value positively.

Market Your Brand through Social Media

Social media offers the best platform for brand marketing in the post-event phase. During the off-season let your followers know what else your organization offers. It gives you comprehensive exposure to the market and, at the same time, promotes your products and services to a larger audience.

Use these strategies to promote your organization through social media even during the post-event phase.

How to Add Administrators to Groups and Business Profiles on LinkedIn and Facebook

As your small business grows and you to start to outsource parts of your operations, you may consider taking on a Virtual Assistant (VA) to assist with the ticking over of your social media activity. At such a time, rather than dish out your personal passwords willy-nilly, you can instead give and remove administrative access to your business accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn to your assistant at your pleasure.

While this is a very quick and easy process once you know how to do it, the links to do so are not always in the most logical places. This article will therefore help you add another administrator to your Facebook page; your Facebook group; your LinkedIn group; and your LinkedIn company profile.

Before we begin though, in order to be able to do any of these, you need to already be an administrator for the page or group in question. If you were the one to create the page or group, you will be an administrator by default; if you did not, you will need to added as an administrator to the page or group by someone who is.

I. Adding administrators to your Facebook page

Log in to Facebook and navigate to your business page.
In the top righthand corner, underneath the dark blue Facebook header ribbon, you will see a button that says "Edit page". Underneath this, you will see a box headed "Admins" (this box is visible only to administrators, not to your fans. If you do not see this box, you are not an administrator and therefore will not be able to follow the remaining instructions.) Click "See all", to the right of where it says "Admins".
This will take you to a new page where you will see a list of current administrators for your Facebook page, with a blank space for you to add a new one. If you are Facebook friends with the administrator, you can simply type their name in the box. If you are not friends with them, you will need to enter the email address they used to create their Facebook account. People tend to have more than one email address now, so this is important to double-check with them!
Click "Save changes". You will be prompted to enter your Facebook password.

II. Adding administrators to your Facebook group

Log in to Facebook and navigate to your group page.
In the top righthand corner underneath the dark blue Facebook header ribbon, you will see a button that says "Notifications" and a search box that says "Search group". Underneath this, you will see a box headed "Members". Click "See all", to the right of where it says "Members".v This will take you to a new page showing you a complete list of all the members of your Facebook group. To make anyone an administrator, all you have to do is click the "Make Admin" button to the right of the person's name.
A pop-up window will appear, asking you to confirm that you want to make this person an admin.

III. Adding managers to your LinkedIn group

Navigate to your group in LinkedIn.
Immediately underneath your group name at the top of the page you will see the following tabs: Discussions, Members, Promotions, Jobs, Search, Manage, More. Click "Manage".
On the left of the page you will see a long menu. Click "Participants", almost halfway down.
Select the group member you'd like to make administrator and click "Change role", then click "To Manager".

IV. Adding administrators to your LinkedIn company profile

In order to add someone as an administrator, you must first be connected to them.
Navigate to your company page in LinkedIn
On the righthand side, above where you will see how many followers the company profile has, you will see a little blue button that says "Admin Tools". Click it, then click "Edit".
Ensure that "Company Page Admins" is set to "Designated Users Only". If it's not, set it.
Below that, you will see a section headed "Manage Admins". In the text box just beneath that, start typing in the person's name, and then select them from the names that appear.
Scroll back up to the top of the page and click "Publish".

Easy peasy!

Mobile Car Washing - Are Your Competitors Spying on Your Social Networking Pages?

Not long ago, I was talking to a mobile car wash company which happened to clean the vehicles for one of my next-door neighbors. They cleaned their car, and their golf cart, and put a wax job on their SUV. Since I am retired from that industry, I asked them how business was. They told me business was good, and I could check them out online. So I did, and I noticed they had a Facebook page, and belong to several social networks, and their customers were "friending them" - and giving them great testimonials.

Indeed, I went back out to talk to them after I had search this on the Internet, and they were still there waxing the SUV. I told them that it was magnificent that they were using and leveraging social online networks to help their business. They agreed that they had lots of customers, and it was helping with solid referrals. However, they also admitted to me that there was a serious problem in all this. It seems their competitors were also going to their social networking page, writing down all the customers, and sending them e-mails, and free coupons.

In other words, the mobile car washing company's competitors were trying to steal their clientele, and therefore maybe it isn't so wise to use social networks in such a competitive industry. Of course, "you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't." Obviously you need a website, or nowadays the customers won't believe that you are a real company. Then again, if you have too much exposure, and too much information about your customers, and their friends online, you might find your competitors taking large chunks or groups of your customers away from you. Indeed this is a Catch-22 isn't it?

The mobile operator also noted that most of his customers were loyal, and whenever a competitor would do such a thing, they would e-mail him, and tell him what was going on. So in a way, the competitor's sneaky strategy, and underhanded vindictiveness was getting the best of them, and in many cases it made his customers more loyal, which I thought was rather interesting. Only a few customers had been suckered into switching, and he said they were customers that he really hadn't liked that much anyway, and I guess I agree with him if they aren't loyal, and he has plenty of work, why does he need customers like that anyhow? Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

How to Advertise on Facebook: Making Ads and Driving Traffic

Knowing how to advertise on Facebook is your first step in starting a Facebook campaign. You should do your homework before ever starting your first campaign and putting money into it that will soon be eaten up with CPM or CPC costs. But if you've never had any experience, how are you supposed to know the right way to advertise?

That's a good question. It seems like a catch-22, almost. It's like a graduate fresh out of college looking for work but gets frustrated because every job they apply for requires two or more years of work history.

Fortunately, you don't have to have on-the-job experience under your belt to learn what to do and what not to do when it comes to knowing how to advertise on Facebook. You can look at case studies, contact other internet marketers who have used Facebook, and even just do a little bit of online research to glean information that can help your first campaign. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

First, let's take a look at the market that Facebook appeals to. Generally speaking, you're not going to be advertising to a lot of people who are 60 and above. Sure, your grandma might be on Facebook, and so might your best friend's great uncle. But will that be your main focus? Probably not.

In general, Facebook is for kids and adults aged 13 and above. Technically speaking, Facebook's terms and conditions prohibit anyone younger than 13 from creating a Facebook profile. Sure, it happens, but they're not supposed to create one. Thus, don't try to sell to the 6-12 year old crowd, either.

Think of your crowd as divided up into these types of groups:

1. The 13-17 year old crowd with school, starter jobs and relationships on their mind. This group likes to have fun, so marketing online games, video games, pop music, rap music, hip clothing and teen nightclubs to them works pretty well.

2. The 18-35 year old crowd with college, a new career, marriage, young children and shopping on their mind. You can divide this group into 18-24 year olds and 25-35 year olds as well, if you need to, since the former group might be into more of the nightclub scene while the latter group will be more serious. Young parents fall into this group as well, so keep that in mind when marketing.

3. The 36-45 year old crowd with kids leaving the house and with retirement in their sights. These groups are likely professionals or experienced moms and dads. Promoting baby stuff might not work, but advertising for a new laptop, cruise tickets and college advice for upcoming high school graduates probably will.

Facebook lets you further divide your groups by gender, relationship status, location and more. This is an advantage to advertising on sites like Google that might only guess about this information by looking at their overall web history and Google account information. You'll find you have a pretty good edge on targeting when you learn how to advertise on Facebook.

Is Advertising on Facebook Free?

One truth about doing business today is no business can survive and grow without advertising. Companies spend huge sums of money on advertising. For large and well-established businesses, the cost of advertising is easily born, but this is not the case for small and medium size businesses. Therefore, these businesses are constantly looking for opportunities to reduce the cost of their advertising.

The huge number of people who use Facebook makes it an ideal platform for businesses to reach out to potential clients. Many businesses can attest to the fact that using Facebook can lead to significant growth in income as a result of increases visibility. But the question most business owners ask is whether advertising on Facebook is free or not. The answer to this question depends on the kind of advertising you are looking for.

The Facebook platform offers a huge opportunity to all businesses around the world to advertise their products for free. However, success depends on the creativity of the individual business person. It is just a matter of taking advantage of the various tools and options provided by Facebook: individual accounts, pages, forums, and groups can all be use for free to publicize a business.

You can use your personal page to introduce your products and services to your friends. Depending on how you present the information, your friends' friends may see the product or service posted on their wall. And, if your friends have bigger networks, then you end up reaching a larger market than you expect.

Another way of advertising for free on Facebook is by joining discussion groups and forums related to your line of business. You don't join and immediately start promoting a product or a business. You first take time to acquaint yourself with the members and learn the rules of the group. You then establish yourself as a credible member by making meaningful contributions in the form of comments and posts. It is only after this that you can introduce your own products and services.

You can also create a free page for your products or business, and link this page to your website so that people who visit your page are linked directly to your website. On the other hand, placing a Facebook "Like" button on your website gives visitors the opportunity to promote your business for you, free of charge.
Apart from these free opportunities, there is what is referred to as Facebook ads proper. This is a system put in place by the owners of Facebook to generate income for the site. These ads are not free and work like Google AdWords. You set your own cost and Facebook will give you a package to suit your budget. It has been argued that Facebook ads are not as rewarding as making use of the platform itself. Facebook ads should be used as a complement to the free opportunities available on the platform.

Facebook has all it takes for businesses to advertise for free. Businesses should learn to take advantage of these opportunities.

Use social media like Twitter, Face Book etc for SEO optimization and eventual increase in leads and sales! One of the best platforms is of Twitter. It just takes basic knowledge, some amount of creativity and few minutes every day to optimize and sensationalize your Twitter account for SEO optimization, redirection of leads to your home page etc.

• When social media has just started, the concept of "nofollow" was there and it was supposed to be taken seriously. Now, when times have changed, do not follow the "nofollow" warning completely. This attribute, once upon a time, used to signal search engines to not give SEO authority to inbound links from Twitter, LinkedIn etc. But times have changed and "nofollow" has lost its significance. So do not forget to tweet and post links whenever possible. It will be optimizing SEO!

• Most of the search engines base Twitter authority in search on your influence on Twitter. Hence, tweeting as much as possible and building your reach is as important! Building stronger, wider and bigger reach with many followers will help boost your tweet rankings

• Your main focus of creating great tweets is to make sure that updates appear in search results. To do so you need SEO ready keywords. Do not eliminate these keywords in order to fit the character space of "140 characters" for your tweets

All the keywords that you have shortlisted for SEO maximization should seamlessly fit into your numerous tweets so that search engines pick on them and get you on the first page of relevant search results!

• Usually, when search engines scan Twitter for spammers or for search results, they usually ignore or eliminate profile names with numbers in it. The algorithm is set in such a way. Avoid using numbers is your name. use a professional name or use the company name

How to Add (and Remove) Twibbons to Your Twitter and Facebook Avatars

Twibbons, or "Twitter ribbons" in support of a cause, event, sport, country, or anything else, add an extra touch of fun and personality to your social media avatars. You will likely have seen them around Christmas when people add Santa hats to their avatars; around November when people add poppies; or during the Ashes or any sporting World Cup when people pin their national colours to their avatars, to name a few popular examples.

As the whole point of Twitter and Facebook is fun and personality, I very much encourage you to have a play with twibbons - though the standard rules of common sense apply if you're using social media to promote your business and choose something particularly political to support! You know best if it fits with your brand, but I'd recommend you keep it light, especially if you're just starting out in social media.

However, if you'd like to join in the fun, it's very easy to do.

I. Adding a twibbon to your avatar

Go to the Twibbon website (link provided in step II.)Log in using either your existing Facebook or Twitter login (depending on which one you'd like to add the twibbon to).Search or browse for the twibbon you're after (ie, "Santa hat").Once you've selected the one you want, click "Support this" next to the image.

And you're done! Some of them, like the santa hats, will give you the opportunity to resize it or reposition it in relation to your mug, so there will be an extra step here, but that's basically all there is to it.

The tricky thing for many people is how to get rid of the twibbon once you've got it there.

II. Removing a twibbon from your avatar

Go to http://twibbon.com.Log in using either your Facebook or Twitter login. In the very top right corner of the screen you will see your Facebook or Twitter name, and then "(My Profile)". Click it.In the middle of the screen you will see your current avatar, complete with twibbon. Just above that you will see two tabs: one says "Profile", and this is the tab you're currently on. The second says, "History". Click it.Choose the old, original avatar you want to go back to and click "Revert" underneath it.On the next screen, confirm your choice by clicking "Make this my profile image".

And that's all there is to it! Have fun with your twibboning!

How to Set Up A Twitter Profile That Attracts Followers That Can Grow Your Business, Part One

Most people have heard of Twitter but are unclear how it can help them grow their business or raise their professional profile. To many, Twitter represents an uncontrolled stream of consciousness where people spend an inordinate amount of time sharing the most banal or trivial information about their lives in the hope that someone will take an interest. As a result, Twitter can be hard to imagine as a business tool.

Nonetheless, used strategically to further business objectives, Twitter can play an effective role in marketing your business, your products and services, and your personal brand. Knowing how to use it and having a clear purpose makes all the difference. This two-part article looks at setting up a Twitter account and creating a profile which attracts the right kind of followers.

If you haven't got a Twitter account, you need to go the Twitter main website (just Google Twitter). On the main page, you'll see a sign up box which is headed "New to Twitter?" Provide your full name, your email address and choose a password. These details can be changed when you start to customise your settings but for now, choose a password that you can remember. Then click on the signup button.

Twitter will then go lead you through an easy process of verifying whether your user name has been taken and offering alternatives where appropriate. Again, you can change details later when you amend your account however do think about the user name you want to choose for your business.

Twitter is a micro-blogging site - you're allowed no more than 140 characters (including spaces) with each posting. Within that post your name will appear as @yourusername so choose a short name which won't use up too much of your allocation.

If your tweet (post) is retweeted (RT) it means your post has been passed on by someone else to their own network. Your name then appears as part of the retweeted message as well as the person who's retweeting so a long name would soon use up the 140 characters.

Select a username which is easy for your customers to identify you with and (if possible or appropriate), reflects what you do. If you're offering specific goods or services which people use as search term e.g. "cupcakes", or "tennis rackets" then a username like (@)"fancycupcake", (@) "eatcupcake", (@) "tennisracket", (@) "greattennis" could be good options. If you're selling professional services, then using your own name would reinforce your brand recognition and integrity.

Once you've passed the necessary verifications, an email will be sent to your given email address to confirm your account opening. In the meantime, you'll move through to the next stage of the process which is to start selecting people to follow on Twitter. Be strategic in your choice of followers - your business-related Twitter account carries different expectations and standards to that of a personal account.

When you chose a follower, it means that their tweets will appear in what is called your "feed". It's a constantly updating flow of tweets which appear as soon as one of your followers posts it. You can follow anyone you wish without an invitation. Unless they decide to block you, you'll have access to all their tweets in your feed.

As your choice of followers appears on your profile and is available to other people to see, your selection plays a part in the "know, like, and trust" factor which is core to social media marketing. In the absence of physical contact, your potential follower has to form an impression of your interests, abilities, experience, and outlook from the way you build your profile, with whom you connect, who follows you in turn, and of course, what you have to say in your tweets.

If you choose your followers wisely, you'll find that your feed can provide you with very useful information about what's happening in your niche community and industry. You can use this for your own development, as market research, and as sources of inspiration for new products & services.

If you're an accountant, follow key leaders and influencers in your field such as HM Treasury, HM Revenue & Customs (or the US Treasury and the IRS if you're US-based), accountancy and tax-related industry publications and journals. You can pick up important information and commentary on your subject area which you can use within your own business or pass on to your community and clients.

Retweeting relevant posts of interest and value to your own followers is an excellent way of demonstrating that you're someone who's up-to-date and current in their knowledge and thinking, as well as mindful of the needs of your network and clients. It's an easy way to show your clients that you're someone who's in the know.

Don't clutter up your own feed with witticisms and observations from celebrities if they don't add value to your business brand. If you like these personalities on a personal level just follow them from your private account. If you're an actor, artist, musician, or writer, then it makes sense to follow fellow creative people and learn how they use Twitter to reinforce their brand. However, your business strategy should guide you to follow agents, scriptwriters, composers, producers, business investors and other useful people who have influence in your chosen field.

Bear in mind that these individuals or organisations are unlikely to follow you back automatically. However if you regularly re-tweet (relevant) posts to your own community, you'll be noticed by the person who's managing the Twitter account who will be inclined to respond with a "thanks for the RT" message which will include your username and be read by the many people who follow that account.

If you follow an account and regularly RT their content to your own followers, it's likely that they will look up your Twitter profile and find out more about you. They'll look at your profile details and the calibre of your tweets. Based on your profile details they'll decide whether or not to follow you back.

In part two of this two part series, you'll see how a compelling profile can persuade more of the right people to follow you and join your online community.

How to Use Facebook To Boost Your Craft Business

Setting up a handmade crafts business can be a very daunting endeavour. There is so much to think about, such as where you are going to sell your crafts from, how much you should charge for your products, and what kind of advertising needs to be done.

However, as anyone who has gone through the experience of starting their own craft business will be sure to tell you, the task of setting up is nothing compared to the task of actually running the business and making it profitable. This is where the real challenge lies and it is the primary reason why many people often resolve to simply stay away from taking steps at all.

For those who actually resolve to pursue their craft business, the primary question that invariably persists is how can I increase my profits? Social media marketing can provide a useful avenue to boost the sales that you make from your handmade crafts and in the recent years, more people are appreciating its true value and turning to its use.

So what exactly is social media? Social media is an umbrella term to describe the use of different communication tools that allow you to connect to people around the world and start to engage with others on a more personal level. Social media is a great way to promote your craft business and better still its free! It can be used to advertise your business but not in the traditional way of paid advertising. In social media you won't last long writing on your accounts about what you are selling everyday. You'll have to be a bit more creative and build up relationships by letting your potential customers know more about you personally such as talking about your creative process or posting a 'how to video'.

It is not possible to talk about social media without referring to Facebook primarily due to the fact that it is the single largest social networking platform in use today both in terms of outreach and number of users. Learning how to implement Facebook to boost your craft business should be a priority for you if you want to reach people interested in your crafts. There are a number of things that you can do to make Facebook work for you in improving the performance and presence of your craft business, some of which are discussed below.

1. Build a separate Facebook page for your business. Most people have their own profile page but this should be kept separate from your business page. It's obviously not professional to have a photo of you drunk at a party next to your brand so keep it separate.

2. Create a 'group'. It can sometimes be tricky to find fans for your page if your handmade fairy wings business is under a name like 'Wendy's Wings'. So why not create a group page where people who like fairies can join. or people who like handmade crafts. This will attract hundreds of more fans for you to then share your business page with.

3. Get more 'likes' on your page. Facebook is a big popularity contest. It's all about getting 'likes' so how do you get them? Well, first of all start with your friends, send them a message and ask them to click the 'like' button. It's unfortunate but we all want to be part of the bigger group, it's a case of 'well if this many people like them they must be good' so why not cheat a little to get your numbers up? Check out fiverr.com where you can buy a few hundred fans for $5! Of course these probably wont be people interested in your crafts but having a larger number of likes will encourage more fans to join.

4. Use Facebook advertising. Have you ever noticed the advertising down the right hand side of your Facebook page seems like it is made just for you? That's not by accident. Facebook knows what you are looking for and personalises the advertising to each person. So what does that mean for your business? Targeted traffic! You choose who sees your adverts their gender, age group, what country they live in whatever is important to you, so your adverts are not wasted on the wrong people.

What's a Service Line and Why Do You Need One?

In the business world, a service line is a grouping of all the products and services related to one particular division of that business. For example, a hospital may have a service line devoted to pediatrics and another service line for oncology. Apple has a service line for telephones and another one for personal computers.

It is helpful to think of your book as an income stream for in your business. Let's say you are a corporate coach who is writing a book on finding a job after age fifty. While you may have coaching clients who are younger than fifty, your book will generate a group of related products and services especially for the older job seeker.

Creating these income streams gives you the freedom to serve many people in your business and the ability to focus in on one particular group of people with common needs. Freedom and focus are an unbeatable combination for any entrepreneur but especially for those who are highly creative and enjoy working with many different types of people.

So how do you start to develop your service line?

The first step is to identify your perfect reader. Then, do some brainstorming. Consider these questions:

· How many of these types of people are you currently serving in your business?

· What do they buy from you now?

· What do you like about serving this group?

· Can you list the five biggest challenges this group faces?

· What products or services do you have that can be adapted to service this group in a perfect way?

Next, dream a bit. Grab some paper and imagine yourself five years from now. Your book has been published and it is selling successfully. You have a fully developed service line of seminars, audio programs, group coaching, workshops, and information products that follow your book.

· What does that look like?

· How do readers engage with you in your service line before, during and after reading your book?

· What products or services bring you the most joy?

· How does your service line produce income to support you?

· Is this your only service line or do you have additional lines?

Capture your dream and future vision on paper. Give yourself permission to dream big and to start small, knowing that your income streams will develop over time. It does not have to be built in a day but will evolve as you interact with your perfect readers and find new ways to help them.

Involved In Social Media? Remember That It's a Two-Way Street

Social media are used so heavily nowadays, users probably give little thought to a very important principle behind the process. In addition to posting on our pages, we are to comment on and otherwise react to what other people post. In so doing we develop the kinds of relationships that endure. Just as importantly, we help the other person build an online presence. In other words, using social media is a two-way street.

Recall the very nature of social media: It's where people meet interact with each other. Think of this as a digital version of the old town square or rural post office. Back then people would congregate to chat, catch up on news (and gossip, of course!), and otherwise socialize. Today we gather online via certain Web sites known collectively as social media.

What does this mean for you? In short, you should be giving along with receiving. And for the most part that giving should occur without any expectations of return from the other people.

In the social media world, giving generally refers to giving providing exposure to someone else's content. That content could be a blog post, video, tweet, or any other piece of online material. Additional examples include commenting on a post and clicking "like" to an item.

Let's see how this works in practice.

Bob posts a blog column and promotes it via a tweet and Facebook posting. You follow Bob in those platforms so you see his promotional comments. (You may also see his blog post via an RSS feed or other manner.)

Bob's column is particularly noteworthy and, because you subscribe to the basic tenet of social media - giving - you provide your own exposure to his column. You tweet about it and post a comment on your Facebook page (in addition to commenting on Bob's Facebook page), and provide a link within your post. For an added touch you hop over to Bob's blog and leave a comment. Bloggers really appreciate thoughtful comments.

One really nice benefit to being involved like this is that you help the person's site achieve a better ranking in search engines. Search engines rank pages based upon relevancy. That's a fancy word for popularity, and it's determined by the number of clicks to a page as well as backlinks and visits. (For massive exposure, Bob may also subscribe to a syndication service.) You as a visitor and commenter play a crucial role in this effort.

You're probably thinking, "Great. I give Bob all this exposure. What about me?"

Recall my comment above about giving with no expectations. That's true for the business world in general. (Think of the referrals you are happy to offer.)

"What goes around comes around," is true in the online world also. The more you assist others in helping with their online efforts, the more they will help you. Those individuals understand, just as you do, that using social media is a two-way street. If you haven't done so already, commit to this important principle, and the online community will become an even better place.

Tom Fuszard has more than 20 years of experience in the business world, much of that in sales and advertising. He uses social media regularly to educate visitors on various business topics. One important tool is his YouTube channel. Tom provides additional information on his blog. Questions? Feel free to contact Tom via tom@tomfuszard.com.

How to Add the Facebook Fan Box With a Joomla Website

Facebook is now so popular; most people have their own Facebook account. And when you visit many Joomla websites, you can see the Facebook fan box where they invite you to follow them in Facebook. You also can see how many people liked them. Do you want to add fan box on your website? Just follow our guidelines, and you can integrate the Facebook module not only on Joomla 1.5! but also on 1.7!.

There are 2 parts:

Part 1 is for people who only have a Facebook account; you need to create your own fan page.Part 2 is for people who already have a fan page. You can start to integrate the Facebook module right now.

Create a Facebook Fan page

First you must have a Facebook fan page. If you don't have one, just login your account and Create a page. When you click on the link, you will see 6 different kinds of page that you can choose. For example, if you're a company, so just choose "company".Choose a category appropriate for your company and write the company name. Click to the box "I agree with Facebook Pages terms" and click to "Get Started" Follow the three steps on the screen to give your site more information.Click "Continue" after you finish the step or "Skip" to ignore this step and jump to the next step. You can edit all of the information later. The basic information will not appear when you integrate the Facebook module. After you finish all the steps, you will see your Facebook fan box appear on the screen. So now you will integrate the Facebook module about this fan page on your website.

To integrate the Facebook module on a Joomla! website

For Joomla! 1.5

Look at the fourth activity in the get started page: Promote this Facebook Page on your website. Click "Add like box".You can go to the settings to integrate the Facebook module Insert your fan page's URL and choose the size that you want the plug-in to appear on your website. You can see the preview of Facebook fan box beside the settings.Continue to choose what part of Facebook fan box you want to appear in the plug-in. You can control the header, the stream and all people who like your page. When you integrate the Facebook module into your website, you may want to hide the header.Click "Get code" to finish. There's a window on the screen to display the code. Choose the iFrame tab and copy the code. That's the code to integrate the Facebook module, and if you want change the settings; you can directly edit the code.Open your website, login as the administrator. Go to the Global configuration to turn off the TinyMCE. The TinyMCE strips out your code, the code can't appear correctly so you can't integrate the Facebook module. The next step is: go to the Extensions / Module Manager and create new. Choose Custom HTML to put your Facebook code in. Insert the title and choose the position that you want for the Facebook module on your website. Paste the code that you copied from Facebook in the custom output. You can alter the parameters if you want.Check the Facebook fan box in your website

For Joomla! 1.7

Because the Joomla! 1.7 stripped out the code so you can't add code as you did in Joomla! 1.5. You should find an extension to show the fan-box in your website. There are some great extensions you can buy such as JFB Connect, Facebook Fan box... But you can get a free one if you don't need to change too much of the appearance of Facebook fan box. In this case I used Face Fan Box or Like Box to integrate the Facebook module.

You install this extension in your website and use Module Manager to fix it. You paste the URL of your fan page and configure the settings you want in the Basic Options.See the Facebook fan box on your website.

So now you've finished integrating the Facebook module into your Joomla website. If you have another way to add the Facebook module, feel free to make comments. All ideas will be appreciated.

I'm an online marketer, love to talk about search engine optimization tips and Social media marketing. I am working at a company about Joomla extensions and Joomla templates so almost my articles are related to Joomla website. Hope that they are useful for all of you.
