A Facebook ad is significantly different from normal PPC ads for three reasons. First, they appear in different places. Second, they appear more frequently with less of a click through rate. Third, they are organized by profile, rather than by keyword.
For all these reasons, it becomes apparent that Facebook ads are a completely different animal form your average PPC ad.
I have comprised this article of three major tips and tricks for creating the perfect Facebook ad. Below are the instructions as well as the explanations.
Use an eye-catching, but also descriptive image. The image along your Facebook ad is the only part of the ad that grabs a reader's attention. Therefore, it needs to catch the reader's interest. However, the image you choose also needs to say something about your product or service. Without reading anything, your prospective customer should have a general idea of what your product is about. That way, the reader will only need to look at your title and maybe a sentence of your body text before clicking.
Convince the reader with your title. If you have used a good, descriptive, attractive image, then you only need to do one thing with your title: persuade. Facebook ads are clicked on because of the image and the title, most of the time your prospective customers won't even read the body text. So convince them with your title. If you were advertising a dating service, after putting an attractive looking couple in your image slot, your title would go like this: "Get a date within the next 10 days!" Your title should be the call to action, and the major persuasive factor that leads to a sale.
Ad a few major details in the body, keeping it brief. Although lots of users won't actually look at the body text, it is still critical to put a few details in this area. Since you've caught the user's attention with your image, and you've persuaded them to click with the title, the only thing left to do is clarify some of the details. What do you want your potential customer to know before they click on the ad and go to your landing page? What kind of people should be clicking on this ad? Is there a money back guarantee that they should know about? Is the site child appropriate? Put in a few critical details, maybe even the price of your product, in the body text.
Target as many people with key interests as possible. Try not to discriminate too much for your target audience, because your ad will do a lot of the discrimination for you. Facebook ads almost always have a low click through rating because ads tend to be more selective than the target audience. When selecting your audience, make sure to target major interests that would correspond with a potential customer, but still keep it broad. The reason for this: Facebook doesn't always know who would be interested in your product and who would not be. Let your ad be the selecting factor.
Now that you have created your perfect Facebook ad, do not get discouraged. Keep working to perfect your ad, and never lose sight of your goals.
